Democracy for Dummies

Imagine our founding fathers today, secretly meeting in a backroom of a Philadelphia Tavern. They are putting the final touches on the “DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE” and working on a rough draft of the “CONSTITUTION“. I have no doubt that today, these documents would be published by IDE and titled “Democracy for Dummies.”

The American form of Government is unique in that it was conceived by men who had never governed themselves. These were not ignorant men. Many were highly educated and all were intelligent enough to know their freedoms were subjugated to a distant power that only stole their wealth and gave no benefits in return.

The simplicity of these historical documents is quite remarkable. They so encompass the essence of Liberty and Freedom that they leave little doubt as to their true intent. These documents were written in a manner so that, even the most common man could understand the limitations of power placed on the government. It was truly a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

This new government was designed to embrace the “Citizen Representative.” Congressional terms were for two years and calculated to minimize the burden placed on the men who would sacrificed their daily lives. Only a sense of duty, and a slightly enlarged ego, could compel an early citizen to attend to the peoples business.

It made sense to limit the commitment these men had to make. Many would leave a family and business behind. It was two years out of their life and although there was no restriction, few would seek multiple terms. The idea was for them to return to their lives and allow another to pick up the baton. Our government consisted of nothing but amateur politicians and was the envy of the world.

Today, the social elite have convinced many that, only those with an ivy league education are competent enough to make Washington work. That, without a political science, law or graduate degree, it was not possibly to understand all that is involved in the day to day governance of a nation. Today’s political class believe you and I need their guidance to find happiness and security. They believe our society is so selfish and devoid of compassion that without their intervention, our society will fail and people will die in the streets.

Most elitists have good intentions. They are simply educated beyond their intelligence. Forgotten, is that our nations greatness comes from her people not, from her government. Most hard working Americans have a love of family and faith in GOD. This is all they require for happiness and security.

Our government works best when operated by citizen representatives. We need to fire the professional politicians and replace them with amateurs. Citizen representatives are more likely to make decisions based on what's best for their constituents and our country not, what's expedient for their political futures.

Let us re-take ownership of our government by getting involved in the political process. We dishonor our veterans and permit a grave injustice when we allow a few individuals to determine the future course of our nation. Get out and VOTE!

The American Government, “so easy a caveman can do it.”
