Boston

Leaving tomorrow for Boston MA. I am a history buff and have always wanted to visit. I have been to Barnstable, MA. on Cape Cod and will do so again.

I’m amazed at how far off the tracks (politically) Massachusetts has gone when you consider the role it played in the founding of our country. Residents of MA were well aware of life under tyranny. They experienced being subjects of a foreign power. British solders could take what they wanted without penalty. Your property was not owned by you, it belonged to the King. You had guardianship of his property.

My ancestor John Lathrop was a founder and the first minister of Barnstable MA in 1636. He had been exiled from England due to his refusal to submit his religious beliefs to the Church of England. There is a wonderful book about his life titled “Exiled” by Heleen Holt. Life in the early colonies was hard. Many died from illness and diseases. Yet, freedom was worth all that they had endured.

Massachusetts today is one of the most liberal states in the country. It’s like they have done a 180. Rather than rebel against government intrusion they seem welcome it. The most recent example is the bill their legislature passed allowing the police to enter peoples home and take them away until they agreed to be vaccinated. Remarkable. Any state that would re-elect Ted Kennedy over and over deserves the government intrusion they receive.

Sorry, I got off the beaten path. I am taking both parents with me and intend to spend a lot of time at the Sturgis Library in Barnstable. I will post form there next week.
