As I was watching my beloved Cowboys shoot themselves in the foot once again, I was offended by two particular commercials during the game. First was an advertisement promoting a vacation resort in Cancun Mexico. It began rather seriously with a fellow sounding as if he were reflecting on his time in battle attempting a beach landing. It then morphed into a colorful spoof about vacationing on the beaches of Cancun. I thought this was in very poor taste. Using our emotions to invoke a vision and death and mayhem then, slapping us with a "ha, just kidding" line. Shameful. Absolutely shameful.
Then, as if on cue, another commercial promoting a "thank you" to our health care professionals for their sacrifices made in the line of duty. It had people stopping on sidewalks or, in hallways to applaud them for their devotion. I said to my wife, "this looked like a spot that could have been produced by the Obama administration." Why? To capitalize on the sincere appreciation we heap on our War Heroes returning from battle.
It chaps my hide to see our War Heroes imagery being exploited for commercial gain by any organization regardless of their good intentions. We as a nation rightly reverence our Military Heroes. For a company to exploit that reverence to curry political favor for their lobby in Washington is even more shameful than the Cancun spoof.
I hope all who feel as I will reject these attempts to extract gain from our country’s most precious natural resource. God bless our troops!
These are the things
